Church Hall

Work on refurbishing the Church Hall has been completed, although it will be a few weeks before the floor is dry enough to lay the new carpet.  In the meantime the old carpet will be laid on the floor and then removed.  The hall is available for bookings from now on.  Wall mounted electric heaters are being installed and these should produce heat quickly.  The fire place is being kept and so those who want an open fire are welcome to light it.  The conditions are that whoever books the hall should light the fire, look after it and then tidy up afterwards.  Coal is available.  Anyone wishing to book the hall can contact Myra Milner.

Fund Raising To Pay For the Church Hall Refurbishment

The total cost of refurbishing the church hall was about £7000.  We have been able to obtain a number of grants but there is still a significant shortfall.  Three events are planned to help raise this money.  The first is the Sponsored Walk.  The second is an Auction of Promises on Wednesday October 27th in The Bay Horse, starting at 6.30pm.  Please see the Church Magazine which is being circulated with this newsletter for more details.  We hope you will be able to come along but if it is difficult you will be able to put in sealed bids beforehand.  Worth a try as you might pick up a bargain!  The third item is a raffle to be drawn at the Auction of Promises.  Tickets will be circulated with the October Newsletter.

Trackrod at Dalby Forest

For the rally fans, the event offers a fabulous opportunity to see the best drivers in British rallying in action in the famous Dalby Forest complex, where the cars will make two visits to the spectacular 'wood yard' section and fans can see a full day of rallying throughout Saturday 24th.  For more details go to the website www.rallyyorkshire.co.uk.

Castle Howard Markets

There are 2 markets in September, Craft and Produce on the14th with over 20 stalls selling a unique range of handcrafted gifts and tasty Yorkshire produce.  Followed by Artsmix Contemporary Art Market, on the 26th showcasing work by up-and-coming Yorkshire designers and artisans; presenting work including ceramics, textiles, jewellery, sculpture, paintings and fashions.  Open from 10.00am until 4.00pm with free entry.

Library Van

The Mobile Library will call on Thursday 16th September between 12.55 and 1.05pm at the church hall.

Church News

There have been three weddings in Burythorpe Church this summer.  The church always looks lovely and of course each of the brides looked wonderful.  We wish all the couples, Charlotte and Ben Stanley, Caroline and Richard Hampshire, and Kim and Andy Wyatt, long and happy marriages and happy memories of their special day in Burythorpe.

Church Services

All church services for the next 3 months are listed in your Parish Magazine; Burythorpe has Evensong at 6.00pm on 19th September.  On 26th September at 10.30 at All Saints, Settrington there will be a service for "Back to Church Sunday".  This will not be a Communion Service and is an opportunity to enjoy a service together for people from right across our Parish including those who don't usually get round to going to church very often or maybe haven't been for years!  Everyone will be very welcome - please consider yourself invited - and if anyone could do with a lift please phone Beryl (658367) to make arrangements.
